Sanlam Investments is one of South Africa’s largest investment management companies. They offer a comprehensive range of local and offshore investment products to end-investors, financial planners and institutions. Sanlam Investments has also successfully shaped some of the most talented individuals in the investments industry. As one of the largest investment management companies in South Africa, they give employees exposure to the complete end-to-end range of investment solutions.
We were tasked by Sanlam Investment’s Head of HR to develop an employee value experience that was exciting, engaging, digital and measurable. We were invited to take part in several internal workshops where we really got to grasp the business pillars, values and understand some of the key goals the business wanted to achieve.
By walking a strategic path with the Sanlam Investments team, we developed an idea around taking their employees on a journey through the EVP (employee value proposition). All previous company messaging around the business pillars had been stale and print orientated. We knew that in order for this relaunch of the EVP to have the impact the client wanted, we needed to create a digital experience that brought the content to life in a fun an innovative way.
We took the key message from each EVP pillars and created video, audio, and illustrative content. We created a tablet station where the employees would commence their experience by first registering themselves anonymously. This was key so we could gauge how the users were interacting with the content and where we would see any possible trends. Taking key digital measurements allowed us to understand what pillars resonated with the employees.
We illustrated various portions of the content to bring the messages to life. We also designed and developed an EVP microsite which linked to Sanlam Investments intranet as a way of allowing to staff to ‘dip’ back into the content they had seen in the augmented experience. Again using analytics, we were able to understand what the staff were interested in.
By creating a first phase digital experience which gave the HR team valuable insights, we were then able to define how best to unpack the content further now that we understand some of the business trends. We developed a web app that defines each of the pillars in further detail but also adds more interaction between the staff and HR team.
Overall Sanlam Investments were very pleased with the strategy, design and execution of our project. We continue to walk a close journey with them in understanding how their business constantly evolves and where we can bring our Wonderland magic to the table.
